Belmore Maple Syrup Festival

48th Annual Maple Syrup Festival

Sometime the best way to start a Saturday is to not have a plan at all.  That is exactly how we started with coffee and a desire to go for a drive.  We heard about the 48th Belmore Maple Syrup Festival over the radio and off we went, we had our destination.

In the photograph above children are learning to tap trees.  They drilled the hole, tapped in the spial and hang a pail and just a few feet away and under very close supervision there was an evaporator steaming on top of a fueled firbox.

Making pancakes

A pancake breakfast with sausages and plenty of maple syrup was the big draw of the day.  We were fascinated with the pancake production line equipped with it's own conveyor belt.  Six large hot plates with three on each side kept the line of hungry visitors from having to wait too long.

There were also many artisans selling their crafts, as well as the mandatory bake sale table which by 10:30 am was well on the way to being sold out.

It was a wonderful day at the Belmore Maple Syrup Festival

And here for the facebook page

I spent a wonderful few hours learning about new products meeting up with old friends and getting to know new ones.  I want to draw your attention to a few of the vendors and products that I use and enjoy.

I paid my $5.00 to get in and I have received no enumeration or free product to make  this post.

I have seen friends and family members achieve a health body weight by using Herbal One.  They described it as a healthy life style change.

I have always been intrigued by these stuffed waxed aroma bears and I wish I was not allergic to scents as I would most certainly own one.

Christina's cakes can be whimsical and traditional which ever you want, she is an artist whose medium is  icing sugar.

Pearl is wearing a very versatile shawl that she has designed, it can be a sleeveless vest, a shawl with sleeves and so many more things.  I was very impressed with both the design and quality.

It's About You is exactly how Christine approaches her business, when you are speaking to Christine there is nothing more important than what you are saying and your health and wellness needs.  I recommend It's About You.

I do not have a dog and yet this is a product that I know and recommend.  Everyone I work with seems to have a dog and this product is often raved about in the lunchroom.

Durham Herb Fair

The 2014 Durham Ontario Herb Fair

Herbs

We spent a wonderful morning walking around the Durham Herb Fair.  This event has been a spring tradition for many families and I look forward to picking out my kitchen herb pots along with visiting with local crafts people and farmers.

Orange flower

Each year the attendance at this wonderful example of a community fair is getting smaller and smaller.  The reason is believed to be the introduction of herbs at local grocery store garden centres.  This is very unfortunate!

Next year consider a drive to Durham Ontario CA and attend the Herb Fair held the first Saturday in June every year.

New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale

New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale

As a Mennonite I have always known of the Relief and Quilt Sale and so in preparing for this post I had to ask Wikipedia and the MCC Relief Sale Official website to find out about the sale.

New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale

It all started in the late 1950’s and has grown over the year to 45 Relief Sales held each year across North America and in 2013 they raised over 5 million dollars in support of Mennonite Central Committee.  MCC is a worldwide ministry of Anabaptist churches who have taken on

Matthew 25:35-36 I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you gave me clothing, I was sick and you took care of me, I was in prison and you visited me

as their service mandate.

All over the world MCC works to stand with and bring care to those who are in need if you want to learn more about the projects currently being under taken please visit either the MCC Canada or MCC US website.

New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale

As a Russian Mennonite my Grandfather experienced this love through feeding program brought to Russian Mennonite in Russia and through MCC’s support in bringing them to North America.

Relief sales have become a time for families and communities to eat, laugh, admire and bid on hand crafted quilts, woodworking items, all type of hand crafts and plants.
If you get the chance look at the Relief Sale Website and see if there is a Sale near you and then go out and take part in this community event.
