Myrtle Beach January 17, 2019 - A warm winter day

Another beautiful day full of sunshine and warm weather. I made Spanish omelets for breakfast they were not pretty and tasted amazing.

Warm winter day

We spent the morning doing activities around the trailer Paul outside and I worked on my first quilt block for the 50 blocks 50 weeks on face book.

Warm winter day

In the early afternoon we went for a walk on the beach and the images from today are the things that caught my attention on this walk.

Warm winter day

Once back at the trailer we did some cleaning and at 3:30 we met friends for ½ price banana splits.
Warm winter day
Signs of the spring to come.

We are home now and will soon make our way to the hot tub before settling in for the nights.

Warm winter day
Signs of spring the spruce have started to bloom since we have arrived.

The holly shrubs have started blooming since our arrival.

5 Minutes Of My Day - Chasing Monarch Butterflies

August 31, 2018

Once again we were greeted after work with 6 to 10 monarch butterflies flitting from one flower to another in our butterfly garden.  And not having learned from yesterdays experience we chased the butterflies with our cameras.

We find such joy in our butterfly garden, in all our gardens if truth be told.

5 Minutes Of My Day - Watching Butterflies Never Grows Old

August 27, 2018

There is a pleasure in the pathless woods;
There is a rapture on the lonely shore;
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar;
I love not man the less, but Nature more.
~ George Gordon, Lord Byron

Sitting outside watching our butterfly garden the birds and butterflies are a wonder to see.

Where do you go to sit and observe nature around you.

5 Minutes Of My Day - The Monarch Butterflies have arrived

August 26, 2018

The monarch butterflies have finally arrived and we have stopped our activities to sit and admire their beauty.

"If you want to live more you must master the art of appreciating the little, everyday blessings of life.  This is not altogether a golden world, but there are countless gleams of gold to be discovered in it if we give our minds to them." ~ Henry Alford Porter.

5 Minutes Of My Day - Hospitality

August 16, 2018

Hospitality - the friendly and generous reception and entertainment of guests, visitors or strangers.

We arrived home tonight to learn our son and his family had invited Grandpa and I over for supper.  They wanted to extend to us their hospitality a delicious meal and a respite from the heat in their air-conditioned home.

The sound of the water moving in their fresh water aquarium created a relaxing back drop to our after-dinner conversation.

When was the last time you either received or extended hospitality outside of the traditional holiday seasons?

Our path is clean with sweeping, the gate is opened wide,
Who knows who may be passing, this way at eventide.
We lit our heart’s bright candle; its beams shine far and clear,
To tell one who may need it that rest and love are here.
We baked the bread of friendship for one may dine thereof;
And poured in crystal goblets the rare sweet wine of love.
And though we may not know it – we heard it from the wise –
That often, very often, come stars in strangers’ guise

5 Minutes Of My Day - Farming is dusty work in a drought

August 15, 2018

Today on our drive home the country roads southwestern Ontario CA. were clogged with dust, as farmers attempt to bring in the harvest and prepare the soil for planting winter wheat.

Extremes in weather seems to becoming the normal and it is worrisome as the farmers who produce our food are at the whims of the weather.

Extremes in nature equal ends produce;
In man they join to some mysterious use.
~ Alexander Pope

What extremes in weather have you been having in your area of the world?

5 Minutes Of My Day - Finding welcoming gates and undiscovered trails

August 14, 2018

Always be open to a new adventure, to the possibility of being surprise by the things you pass by each day.  This gate while new has been here long enough for the ferns to grow up underneath and we have walked passed this gate at least three times a week this past summer without noticing it.

Today on our walk the path leading up and away from the gate and the gate itself filled us with wonder.  Adventure happened when we our imaginations go then the path became a trial transporting us unknown places through the cool of a forest floor.

"One man finds an obstacle a stumbling block; another finds it a stepping stone."
 ~ William Lyon Phelps

What ordinary things in your life are you just walking past?

5 Minutes Of My Day - We are never to busy to notice

August 13, 2018

Wow today was busy, rushing from one activity to the next and being mindful that we needed to make time to stop and recharge.  Setting aside time at lunch to walk the river path where we stopped to acknowledge the place we were standing in.  The path was lined with Jewel Weed and within the beautiful orange flower we watched the busy activity of this pollinator.

We are all busy and never too busy to stop and find joy and wonder in the world around us.

What did you stop and notice today?

5 Minutes Of My Day - Peace be in our hearts

August 12, 2018

A day full of peace and joy.
A wonderful potluck at church and a 20th anniversary celebration.
Peace in our hearts, mindful that each moment lived to the fullest is enough.

If peace be in the heart,
The wildest winter storm is full of solemn beauty,
The midnight flash but shows the path of duty,
Each living creature tells some new and joyous story,
The very trees and stones all catch a ray of glory,
If peace be in the heart.
~ Charles Francis Richardson
