Art and Mushrooms

All morning Sue and I played with acrylic paint in Ron’s man cave (the garage).

This is a technique that Sue learned in a class and was willing to teach me.

In the afternoon we went to Gruger Fungi Farm where we learned how fungi is grown in the fibers of hemp stalks.

The fungi was beautiful and process of growing the fungi very interesting.

Painting the best way to spend a day

Spent a wonderful morning and afternoon painting with my grandson and a cherished friend. 

Sue came prepared to teach James and I how to stipple.  I was guarded that this would be a good match for my impatience however under her patient tutelage and support from James our grandson I came to enjoy this form of art.

Sue left one of her original pieces of art for James isn’t it beautiful.

Enjoying our gardens and a space to create

A strawberry patch this time of year is a thing of delicious beauty however a patch of weed strawberry not so much.  

Today I tackled the wild strawberry growing among our lavender.

Wild strawberry along the roadsides produce tiny flavourful berries that explode with strawberry goodness, our wild strawberry again not so much.

Gardening gave me a reason to say hello to neighbours, and the mailman who acknowledges me by name with a cheerful hello and “… sorry only bills today” having taken notice of the Happy Mail I receive from time to time.

In pulling the weeds it was necessary to cut some of the lavender which I carefully set aside to scent the house with.

Around 1:00 I came in and made myself a quick lunch of hummus and crackers.  

 I ate while I tea dyed paper to use in journals.

The process of dying paper is messy and enjoyable.  I love how that paper goes into the oven soft and comes out crunchy. 

Call me mad, I also enjoy ironing the paper smooth the result is an aged paper that it enjoyable to write on. 

I also brought in the lavender and some roses to create a spray of beauty on my desk.

4:00 saw me at Yin Yang yoga and tonight as I write I have very sore muscles, am looking forward to a long soak in some Epsom salts before going to bed.

After yoga I worked on the junk journal that I am making for a swap.

The world becomes lighter with a drop in humidity

While some parts of Southern Ontario received rain last night and with it cooler temperatures not in our part of Bruce/Grey County the house was 29 C this morning at 4:00 am and the humidity did not drop until after 3:00 pm.

Hiding  in the house this morning, hunger eventually drove us out on the streets and into the heat.

And we always have breakfast out on Saturday mornings. The only consideration as to where we would eat was, they had to have air conditioning.

After having a lovely breakfast in cool temperatures, I was relaxed enough to walk back home and spend an hour or so in the garden. 

Paul went back to work on the Rpod Struts and completed the task.

Then I sent myself to my craft room to prepare the packages of paper for my fellow junk journaler’s tomorrow.  I am a treasure hunter by heart and my new art form means I am collecting again.  Sharing from my treasures helps me to destash and engage in a random act of kindness.

Our lupper was a lovely cold plate of homemade tuna salad and summer squash with hummus.  

I had an interesting exchange with my son-in-love where he used texting and pictures to walk me how to use my scanner.  He is such a patient man.  The end result is a paper product I can use in my Junk Journals instead of cutting up these beautiful old needle points , I’m very happy. 

The day began to cool around 4:00 with the drop in humidity and Paul moved outside to finish weeding the garden while I raced around the house opening windows.  

Don’t you hate when the inside of your home is warmer then the outside air on hot summer evenings when you need to sleep.

Once the windows were opened, I went back to the craft room where I packed up all of my supplies for tomorrow and made a YouTube Video.

Happily in the craft-room while it rained

Being consigned to the craft-room while outside a thunderstorm raged is really not a hardship.  

With the dry hot weather of the past few days the roses were in need watering they look so amazing now with the rain - they are happy.

Paul’s volunteer drive for this morning was cancelled and there were no spots at the Yoga Barn left so he took my spot, leaving me at home alone.

Now truth-be-told I was still sore from yesterdays Yi Yang session so I was relieved when he agreed to go.

I am part of a journal swap in July and my goal for this long weekend is to complete the cover and the three signatures which will leave only the tags to complete.  

The journals theme is Alice In Wonderland and in preparation for making the journal I re-introduced myself to story, such an amazing story the word imagery is outstanding and Alice a strong female character.

At 6:30 pm with the cover completed and ½ of the first signature well on its way I cleaned up my workspace.

Since retiring I have promised myself that I will clean up at the end of each day and so far, so good.  I find it easier to pick up a project and start again when my workspace has open space for me to fill with creative ideas.

A very Zen day.

Crafting and a Grade 8 Graduation

A wonderful day of crafting with Darlene McConnachie followed by overwhelming pride in our granddaughter.

Working through Darlene’s instructions I learned new techniques, made new friends and spent a glorious day crafting.

Darlene prepared two journal kits for us to complete, and then to decorate using our own supplies at our leisure.

Darlene must have reminded us 8 times not to sew the punch template into the signature and what did I do sewed it in.

She was also constantly reminding us to check that our papers were running the right direction before we sewed or glued them in and yep I sewed my signature in upside down.  

Too much laughing, and socializing and all mistakes are steps in our learning - redo.

Darlene made these miniature journals as a gift for each of us.

I love the journal cover that I made.

In the evening we attended our granddaughter’s grade 8 graduation.  She was the class valedictorian and achieved many awards.  

This is my favourite picture of her. 

My blessing for her is that she will never take herself too seriously and always find joy in life.
