Today backpacks arrived from the United Way, donation dollars
in action.
We with much should never underestimate the equalizing power
of starting school with a new backpack filled with new school supplies.
Come September the children who receive these backpacks will
all start school on an equal footing as far as backpacks and supplies are
concerned.
The first impressions of
their teachers will not be of poverty and want and we all know how important first
impressions are, how they influence advancement, expectations.
