5 Things to Tell Your Grandchildren in October

Baby Boomers were the first generation of children to celebrate Halloween by Trick or Treating in local neighborhoods and now we are becoming Grandparents.  So for October 2014 let's share our memories of Halloween with our Grandchildren.

1. What was your favourite costume?
  • Did your parents buy it or was it homemade?
  • If it was homemade who made it you, your parents or was it a collaboration?
2. What is your strongest memory associated with Halloween?  Remember in sharing your life with grandchildren it is important to be real share both the good with the bad.
  • How old were you?
  • What details can you remember?
  • Who was with you?

3. What was your favourite Halloween Candy?
  • Was there a particular house or neighbour that gave out this candy?
  • What candy did you like least?
  • Did your parents take your candy on you?
  • Did they check your candy for tampering?
4. What was the first costume that their parent your child went out in?
  • Did you buy it or was it homemade?
  • If it was homemade who made it you, your child or was it a collaboration?
  • If you have a picture make a copy for your grandchildren.
5. How was Halloween celebrated by your public school?

This will be the first of a monthly post on things that you might want to share with your Grandchildren.  I would suggest that you both share the stories verbally and that you write your Halloween story down.

Knitting the Sky

September 2014

I bind the Sun's throne with a burning zone,
         And the Moon's with a girdle of pearl;
The volcanoes are dim, and the stars reel and swim,
         When the whirlwinds my banner unfurl.
From cape to cape, with a bridge-like shape,
         Over a torrent sea,
Sunbeam-proof, I hang like a roof,
         The mountains its columns be.
The triumphal arch through which I march
         With hurricane, fire, and snow,
When the Powers of the air are chained to my chair,
         Is the million-coloured bow;
The sphere-fire above its soft colours wove,

         While the moist Earth was laughing below.
