5 Minutes Of My Day - Learning to be patient with myself

August 4, 2018

My how I wish my body would move as I think it should!  The instructions from our yoga teach foretell of a downward dog coming, I cannot get myself into that position and I follow her direction and try.
At we hold the position she reminds us to be patient with ourselves and as my legs vibrate, my wrists begin to hurt her words are opening new thoughts and ideas.

Patience what is it?  It must be more than just waiting quietly.

Patience I have come to understand is being present in each moment waiting with expectation for wisdom.
Being patient with yourself is the same being present with yourself expecting wisdom, opening to self awareness, to knowing yourself differently to finding the wisdom you hold.

With my new understanding of patience I approached a project that I have struggled with to complete and patience provided inspiration.

Genius is eternal patience ~ Michelangelo

In 2015 for some reason I did not take a photograph and I can only assume it was a rough day and yet I have taken a daily picture through the worst of days.  Not having a photograph has left me not knowing and filled me with many questions about that day.

It is a marvel of the human experience how a picture transports you back to that moment, to your thoughts and expectations.

How do you hold onto memories?

The hot weather will come to an end this evening with the thunderstorms that are building on the horizon.  The cooler weather and renewed freshness that the storms will bring is anticipated with joy.

5 Minutes Of My Day - Sunshine and the fragrance of wild phlox

June 8, 2018

Our sense of smell is one of our strongest links to memory.

This evening the temperature was perfect for driving with the window down and as I drove home the fragrance of wild phlox transported me back to my childhood and driving early in the morning with my grandfather.

A weekend sleepover with my paternal grandparents meant an early morning drive with grandpa where he would introduce me to the amazing beauty of his world.

Wild phlox was just of the beauties he introduced me to and the intoxicating fragrance they create on the wind.

5 Minutes Of My Day - I am here.

May 30, 2018

Racing through the day, moving from one stressful event immediately into the next with no awareness of self – my needs, the space that I am taking up, being totally focused on the people and tasks before me it was that at the end of the work day with both breakfast and lunch  half eaten on my desk, I race home just in time to travel with Paul to our yoga class.

At the studio I quickly gather yoga props, lay down and continue to race through the day right up until our instructor asks us to breath in “I am” and breath out “here.”

Breath in the beauty and amazing moments that were today.
Hold strong through the moments that were awful
Breath out into the present moment of your now.

I am here.

I am here

With these words I reclaim myself, begin to feel my body, relax into the wonder of the moment I am in.

I could not tell you what the sky was like as I entered the yoga studio and as I existed with the words “ I am” flowing through me as I breathed in and “here” as I exhale I am overwhelmed with the beauty of the sky above me and experience pure joy.
