The highways were easy to drive as many stayed home recovering
from New Years Eves and the highway provided the moment of serenity at a rest
stop.
It was late in the day and we had stopped for a quick break, with
quick being the operative word. The
shortened January days meant shortened daylight hours a fact we did not plan for and
we were behind on our self-imposed timeline.
As I went to enter the women’s washroom an elderly coupled
entered the rest station she leaned heavily on her partner and as he released
her to enter the washroom alone she stumbled walking her hands alone the
wall.
(Serenity) I offered my arm and without hesitation her weight transferred
to me and I new without hesitation this was where I was to be, what I was to be
doing and I felt serene. I stayed
present with this feeling until I was able to transfer her weight once again to her beloved.
We are stopped for the night not where we wanted to be and where we should be given the opportunities that life presented us today.
Serenity comes when you trade expectation for acceptance
