A Farm Visit

Today while visiting a farm we were pointed to four Barn Swallow nest, now empty for the winter.  What caught our attention was the knowledge that Barn Swallows are threatened in Ontario CA.

 As barns started to be demolished, farmland up by urban sprawl and the increased use of pesticides both their habitat and their food supply decreased.


The Ontario webpage states that the population has decreased by 65% between 1966 and 2009 and remains on the threatened list in Ontario Canada.
