Handmade Tree Ornaments
The first Saturday in December is when we traditionally put
up our Christmas tree. Everyone takes
part and it is a time of reminiscing as every ornament on our tree has a memory
attached to it.
Our tree will never win any awards and it is full of love
and memories.
There are the ornament that we purchased as parents for our
children’s first Christmas.
There are the ornaments that we inherited and that we
remember hanging on our Grandparents Christmas tree.
Ornaments that our grandchildren made for us.
Ornaments that my Grandmother made for me.
Handmade Christmas Tree Ornaments
Children can make
The first year that Paul and I were married Paul made us
wooden Christmas tree ornaments and this year Emily and Ruth help Grandpa make
some more.
Step 1 - involves an adult and a saw. You can either purchase or use end of
baseboard trim and cut it into ¼ inch to ½ inch slices. Once the wood is cut if there are
rough edges these should be sanded off.
Step 2 – let the children experiment holding the pieces
together until they get the shape they want.
Step 3 – glue the pieces together and once the glue is dry
start painting
Step 4 – paint the ornaments or if you want you can just lacquer
the wood as Paul did back in 1979
Step 5 – an adult should hot glue a ribbon or hook on the
back of the ornament and hang it on the tree.
Merry Christmas
